Flowers for someone who is sick or injured can provide such a lift for the spirits. Balloons date back centuries. The earliest known existence of balloon-like objects are said to be medieval court jesters inflating animal entrails and twisting them into "amusing" shapes. Yuck! Thankfully, those days are long gone. In 1824, the rubber balloon was invented by Professor Michael Farraday, and a novelty revolution was born.
